last night i watched a wonderful french film called “seraphine” – set in france during the 1st world war, it is a true story of seraphine louis, a simple working class maid who was inspired by her religious faith to paint these intense and frenetic paintings of flowers and fruit. she was discovered by a german art critic while she was working for him as her maid.
the film was directed by martin provost and starred yolande moreau, who was just amazing. i highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it (it is from 2008). it won a cesar award for best picture and yolanda won numerous, well deserved, best actress awards.
